The Three Lions boss has confirmed a 33-player preliminary squad, with Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson and Reece James among the high-profile stars left out.
Scotland manager Steve Clarke has followed suit by naming his own initial 28-man squad before the pair will be tasked with whittling the long-list down to a final 26 names ahead of the June 7 deadline before heading to Germany.
Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugal’s squad, with Kylian Mbappe headlining a stacked array of France options.

- Matty Cash has told talkSPORT that his Aston Villa teammate Ollie Watkins is ready to lead the line for the Three Lions.
- Watkins is expected to be Harry Kane’s back-up in Germany having bagged 19 goals and made 13 assists across 37 Premier League games.
- “His numbers have been incredible this year,” Cash admitted.
- “From what I see of Ollie on a day to day basis, there’s no reason why he can’t start for England.
- “Ollie is a bit of a confidence player. There was a turning point at Southampton away when he scored. He had a bit of doubt before that and he was in his own head.
- “For him, when he scores goals he gets so much confidence. He tells me before games, ‘I’m going to score today’. Since I’ve come to Villa, he [Watkins] does everything right. The hard work has paid off for him.”
- Aston Villa defender Matty Cash has missed out on Poland’s provisional EURO 2024 squad due to a calf injury.
- However, the man who Cash named as the best player he has ever played with is in – and it’s not Polish captain Robert Lewandowski.
- “[Piotr] Zielinski, he’s incredible,” Cash told talkSPORT.
- “Honestly, you look at [Jack] Grealish and obviously you look at Lewandowski, he speaks for himself, but Zielinski is the best player I’ve played with.
- “Grealish when he was at Villa, he was incredible and he is now. But Zielinski is the one for me. When you watch him you think, ‘wow’. Since I’ve played for Poland, ever since I played with him on day one.
- “Obviously I don’t watch lots of Italian football so I didn’t know him. But Zielinski is probably the best I have played with.”
- Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have both been included in the Czech Republic’s provisional 26-man squad for Euro 2024.
- Souček said: “It’s the second Euros of my career, and to go as captain of my country is incredible.
- “It’s something I dreamt about when I was a child, and to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Pavel Nedvěd and Tomáš Rosický is amazing.
- “We have a new manager and some young players, and we’re hopeful we can build on our run last time and be successful for our fans and for our country.”
- Harry Maguire is working hard to ensure he is fully fit for England’s opening game of Euro 2024 against Serbia.
- According to the Daily Mail, Maguire has decided not to go away on holiday this summer in order to focus on getting fit for Germany.
- The 31-year-old skipped a family break at the end of the season
- Rather than going away for a break at the end of the season and reported for duty in Middlesbrough early on Tuesday alongside club teammate Luke Shaw and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon.
- Maguire has not played for Manchester United since the 1-1 draw against Burnley on April 27 due to an ongoing muscle injury.
- The defender sat out the FA Cup final win over Man City and Wembley but is desperate to be back to face Serbia on June 16.
- West Ham’s Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have been named in Czech Republic’s provisional squad for Euro 2024.
- The pair are expected to keep their places when the number of players in the squad is reduced in June.
- Soucek and Coufal were announced as part of the Czech team earlier today and will play against Georgia, Turkey and Portugal in the group stages.

- Virgil van Dijk is in the Netherlands’ pre-Euro 2024 training camp but media questions remain focused on Liverpool.
- He has been asked about his future at the club and he reiterated his stance, saying: “I still have a year left on my contract.
- “I am club captain and I have made it clear I am there for the new coach and enthusiastic over the next season.”
- Van Dijk also spoke about new Reds boss Arne Slot and said: “I congratulated him of course and I’m really pleased for him and his family.
- “We spoke about the team and the future, but now my focus is fully on the national team.”
- Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco has been speaking about the decision to leave Thibaut Courtois out of his squad for Euro 2024.The Real Madrid goalkeeper has only played four games all year due to various injuries and has missed out on selection.Speaking to the media at a press conference, Tedesco said: “He was honest and clear.”He knows his body the best, and it’s different to play every three or four days during a tournament.”So, when taking all this into consideration, we didn’t think he was ready for the Euros.”Of course, we now plan with the players that are able to play.”
- Marcus Rashford has announced that he will be stepping away from social media ahead of Euro 2024.
- The Manchester United forward missed out on the England squad for the tournament and won’t be travelling to Germany this summer.
- Rashford will certainly have been extremely disappointed to be snubbed and the decision came at the end of a very tough season for him on a personal level.
- He hit out at online abuse received from fans during the campaign last month and called for an end to the comments made towards him.
- And now the season has finished, Rashford has now decided to step away from social media completely to help him ‘reset mentally’
- Luke Shaw has revealed in an emotional Instagram message that he still isn’t fit and seemed to cast doubt over his involvement at Euro 2024.
- The Manchester United left-back has been hit with injury all year, but he’s the only natural left-sided defender Gareth Southgate has named in his provisional England squad.
- But with him not fit, it seems one of Kieran Trippier or Joe Gomez will likely be left-back until Shaw is available, although that’s looking unlikely.
- In a post on Instagram, he said: “Happy for the boys to lift the trophy at the weekend and finish this season on a positive. As much as it was the result I wanted, it was hard to watch from the stands.
- “This has definitely been the most frustrating season for me, I have had set back after set back and have worked so hard to get back to fitness, but things just haven’t gone my way. I pushed so hard to get back before the end of the season and the final but some things just aren’t meant to be.
- “There’s nothing I want to do more than play and win with @manchesterunited, I don’t normally react to things I see on social media, but there’s a lot of people questioning my loyalty to this club and asking how I am fit for England but not United. The reality is I am not 100% fit for either right now, but I am doing everything I can and constantly working to be. I have been at this club for 10 years through highs and lows and for anyone to question my loyalty is obviously frustrating.
- “I appreciate I haven’t updated you all with my injuries and where I’m at with my recovery, but equally, the most important thing to me is that we’re supporting the team playing. My biggest focus right now is being fit and then whatever happens this summer I will be ready. Thank you for your patience.”
- It’s bad news for Thibaut Courtois who has missed out on selection for Belgium’s Euro 2024 squad.
- The Real Madrid goalkeeper has just returned from an ACL injury, but he hasn’t done enough to convince Domenico Tedesco of his fitness after playing just four games.
- Instead, Luton’s Thomas Kaminski and Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels are likely to battle it out for the number one spot.
- Elsewhere, there are no other real shocks, with Kevin De Bruyne, Leandro Trossard and Romelu Lukaku all included.
- However, there is no space for ex-Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.
- Goalkeeper: Casteels, Kaminski, Sels
- Defenders: Castagne, De Cuyper, Faes, Meunier, Theate, Vertonghen, Debast

- Forward: J.Bakayoko, Carrasco, De Ketelaere, Doku, Lukaku, Lukebakio, Openda, Trossard
- Cristiano Ronaldo will be a part of Portugal’s Euro 2024 squad after finding a key role under Roberto Martinez, and he’s heading to Germany in fine form.
- The superstar scored twice last night to break the record for number of goals in a Saudi Pro League season.
- The previous record was held by Abderrazak Hamdallah. He scored 34 during the 2018/19 season.
- However, Ronaldo is now on 35 for the campaign and has 64 goals in just 69 games for Al-Nassr.
- So, Portugal fans might see Ronaldo at his best for one final international tournament this summer.
- Spain boss Luis de la Fuente also hit back at critics of his decision to select Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella over Girona defender Miguel Gutierrez.
- “There are those who we believe are better in our approach,” De la Fuente said.
- “We believe that Cucurella and [Alejandro] Grimaldo have done the job very well and have earned it.
- “Within the scenarios we propose, they are the best for us. Right now they are the best 29 players to defend our idea.”
- Spurs defender Pedro Porro has put an emotional statement on Instagram following the news that he won’t be playing for Spain.
- He wrote: “I was very excited about the possibility of being able to represent my country in the Euros, but in the end it won’t be possible this year.
- “Respect and admiration for all of the players who will be defending our colours. From here I will be supporting the team hoping we have great joy.”
- Porro quickly received messages of support from Tottenham captain Heung-min Son as well as Real Madrid rival Dani Carvajal.
- Cristian Romero added: “Let’s go brother – unbelievable”, alongside a red heart and face palm emojis.
- Luis de la Fuente has defended his decision to call-up veteran Jesus Navas ahead of Tottenham defender Pedro Porro for Spain.
- De la Fuente said at his press conference: “Jesus Navas can contribute a lot to the team.
- “He is one of the captains, he is an example, he is part of the history of our team. He’s won a World Cup, a European Championship and a Nations League. He is an example every day, he transmits it to all of us. He can contribute a lot to us in the dressing room, in addition to all the football talent he has.
- “He has gone through difficult times, like all his teammates, and he has always been up to the task. Jesus Navas never fails. I also take this opportunity to say it. There are footballers who are born to compete for their clubs, but especially in the national team. He is one of them who transforms when he puts on the national team shirt.
- “It seems that he was born to be an international footballer. We celebrate him.
- “We are very delighted that he is here with us and has the excitement he has after having won everything he has won. He still thinks he can still improve.”
- Tottenham have seemingly taken umbrage with Spain’s decision to snub Pedro Porro from their squad for Euro 2024.
- Spurs released a highlight video of their right-back’s assists in the Premier League this season an hour after La Roja announced their provisional list.
- Luis de la Fuente opted for Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal and 37-year-0ld Jesus Nevas to cover the right side of his defence.
- Goalkeeper: Unai Simon, Raya, Remiro.

- Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk spoke about England’s chances of winning the Euro’s at the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend.
- The Netherlands skipper said: “Ok yeah, listen, England is a very, very good team and squad and so many other teams are as well — France is very strong.
- “But it will be interesting, I’m looking forward to that as well. It’s obviously (the) next goal, as we say in Holland, but hopefully we’ll have the Dutch fans and Orange army there supporting us.”
- Manchester United and England defender Luke Shaw is the ‘best left-back in the world’, according to Erik ten Hag.
- The Dutch boss made the bold claim ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Man City – which is LIVE on talkSPORT, and a game Shaw will likely miss after another injury-plagued campaign.
- Shaw has been out since February with a muscle issue, having made just 15 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils this season.
- It’s been a common theme of the defender’s ten-year spell at Old Trafford, having missed a staggering 264 games through various injury problems since his £30million transfer – a world-record fee for a teenager at the time – from Southampton.
- That’s slightly less than the number of matches he has actually played in a decade as a United player – 275.
- Shaw’s injury issues have been a huge shame, given how clearly highly-rated he is by his coaches.
- Gareth Southgate has included the 28-year-old in his provisional Euro 2024 squad despite missing the majority of the season, explaining the Three Lions staff are giving him more time to get back to full fitness in time for the tournament this summer as he is by far the best option at left-back.
- Ten Hag agrees, but the Man United boss admits Shaw will unlikely be able to play an entire season in his career ever again due to the fractured leg he suffered early in his Red Devils career – with the player later admitting he ‘nearly lost’ his leg due to complications.
- Speaking to Dutch outlet Vi.NL, Ten Hag said: “Luke Shaw is the best left back in the world.
- “This guy is so good. But he has suffered a horrible injury at the start of his career and because of this he will never be able to play 60 games per season.”
- England manager Gareth Southgate will be a nervous spectator during today’s FA Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United.
- The Three Lions boss will be hoping his players come through unscathed before the training camp for Euro 2024 begins.
- Man United duo Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are already expected to miss the Wembley showpiece due to injury.
- However, Kobbie Mainoo is likely to feature, while a number of Man City stars will be involved.
- John Stones, Kyle Walker, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish were all named in Southgate’s 33-man training squad earlier this week.
- Ian Wright has pinpointed England’s defence as a major problem in their pursuit of Euro 2024 glory this summer.
- The Arsenal and England legend told SunSport: “Obviously our defence is something he’s going to have to sort out.”
- “When we’re looking at how some of our players are performing – Harry Kane, amazing, top scorer in Germany, Jude Bellingham in Spain, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer we are seeing unbelievable football from.
- “So yeah I am very much always going for England, especially with the last few tournaments as semi-finalists, at least with what we’ve got so I’m not gonna back off from that – it’s not just that I want England to do it, our team is good enough.”
- Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud will retire from international duty with France after Euro 2024.
- “This will be my last competition with Les Bleus. I’m going to miss it a lot,” Giroud told L’Equipe., external
- “We need to make way for the youngsters. You also have to be careful not to have one season too many. You have to find the right balance.”
- Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has allayed fears that Kieran Trippier could miss Euro 2024 through injury.
- Trippier took part in a post-season friendly against Tottenham in Australia on Wednesday but was withdrawn after just 37 minutes.
- He was later reported to have an ice pack around his ankle to spark fears that his place in the Three Lions team could be in jeopardy.
- But Howe later confirmed that Trippier’s early exit was pre-planned, and that he didn’t leave the pitch due to picking up a knock.
- Howe said: “No that was all planned. We spoke [with] Kieran and thought best thing to do was start him.
- “He is still in the early stages of recovery so we didn’t want to take risks with him. Half an hour was always the aim.
- “He did well and is not injured. Let’s see how he feels on Friday. We have to make sure we treat him well at the early stages.”
- Marcus Rashford may have been left out of England’s Euro 2024 squad – but he is front and centre of the Three Lions’ clothing range shoot.
- The 26-year-old appeared alongside Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher for Marks and Spencer’s formalwear range.
- But unlike Ramsdale and Gallagher, Rashford will not be wearing the clothes off the field with his England teammates in Germany this summer.
- In more promising news, England captain Harry Kane has recovered from a back issue that wrecked the end of his season.
- The striker missed the final two Bundesliga games of the season having been forced off with an injury during Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final second-leg defeat at Real Madrid.
- However, Southgate says Kane is “pretty much clear now”.
- “He is quite relaxed about it. I think a sensible decision was taken not to push for the last game there,” Southgate added.
- “Back problems can just happen – travel, whatever else – but it is not something we are concerned about at this moment in time.
- “Our understanding of it is that it is something that is pretty much clear now.”
- Erik ten Hag has revealed Harry Maguire is not fit to play in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
- He hasn’t played since the 27th April and that is his domestic season over.
- There will now also be concerns over his fitness for Euro 2024…
- He said: “Harry Maguire is unavailable but for the rest, all of the players you mentioned are available.
- “Tomorrow final training and we make final decisions but the way I see it now it looks good (that Mount, Lindelof and Martial are available).
- “Maguire? It (the injury) didn’t heal as expected.”
- Erik ten Hag has spoken about Marcus Rashford’s state of mind after being left out of the England squad this week.
- “He looks good,” the Man United boss said.
- “That is a career with ups and downs, a down can also give fuel and that is what I see in training.
- “He will be highly motivated, speak with your feet, he’s highly intelligent.
- “He has had a big career, I’m sure he will get over this and get more goals.”
