After failing to beat Denmark in their second game of Group C, the Three Lions’ fate remains up in the air.
Gareth Southgate’s side struggled against the Danes despite taking the lead through Harry Kane and had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Here, com takes a look at what is now needed for England to progress…
The top two teams in each group qualify for the last 16 automatically while the four best third-placed countries also claim a place.
Put simply, a win in their final game would see England finish top of the group.
That is the easiest way of getting it done and it will definitely be the aim of the Three Lions when they take on Slovenia on Tuesday night.
A draw would also be enough to secure a top-two place and even top spot if Denmark fail to beat Serbia in their final group game.
If all goes wrong though and Southgate’s men lose to Slovenia and the Danes beat Serbia, it would mean they drop down to third place.
However, four points is very likely to see them still progress as one of the best third-placed teams anyway.
No team has ever secured four points and not progressed from third.
But England won’t have wanted to go through that way and would face a tough draw in the round of 16 if that was the case.
If they end up in third and need to be separated from other teams level on four points, it will then come down to goal difference.
The Three Lions face Slovenia next Tuesday night and there is bound to now be some nerves in the camp.
